How to Choose the Perfect Flexible Heater

Choosing the right flexible heater comes down to three questions: how hot does it need to get, how tight does it need to bend, and what environment will it work in. Here's how Elmat's four materials compare.

Silicone Flexible Heaters  The most widely used option

Silicone is the go-to choice for most industrial applications thanks to its balance of flexibility, durability, and cost-efficiency. It adapts easily to curved and complex surfaces and is the most common material choice across food & beverage, automotive, industry and special applications.

Mica Heaters  For the highest temperatures

Mica offers the highest operating temperature in the Elmat manufacturing range, making it the right choice whenever a process runs hotter than silicone can handle. It's less flexible than the other materials, but where extreme thermal resistance is non-negotiable, Mica heaters are the standard.

Kapton (Polyimide) Heaters  For thinness and precision

Kapton heaters are the thinnest in the range and tolerate the tightest bending radius, which is why they're the material of choice in aerospace, medical, and electronic applications where space and weight are critical.

Polyester (Mylar) Heaters  For lower-temperature in cost-sensitive applications

Polyester is the most economical option and suits applications with lower thermal requirements, offering an ultra-thin profile similar to Kapton at a lower cost.
